Troubleshooting Sumac Installation on a Mac

Sometimes, when downloading and installing Sumac on a Mac, you may see a message saying that Sumac is from an “unidentified developer.”

This doesn’t mean that something is wrong with Sumac. Essentially, it just means that your Mac cannot recognize the name of the developer who publishes Sumac. Mac computers are often set up by default to only accept downloads/installs from the Mac App store. When this is the case, and you try to download Sumac, your machine can't recognize Sumac because it's not found in the Mac App store.

It's pretty easy to resolve this and install Sumac successfully. Below, you will find a couple of solutions to try:

Option 1
  1. From your desktop, navigate to your dock bar (usually found along the bottom of your screen), and open System Preferences.
  2. Click "Security and Privacy" to open that menu.
  3. In the bottom left corner, click the Lock icon to make changes here. Then, under the "Allow apps downloaded from" header, select "Anywhere" (see image below).

  4. Finally, click the Lock icon again to save your changes
  5. You should now be able to complete your Sumac install.
Option 2
  1. Try right-clicking the Sumac icon, and select Open from the menu. Opening it this way allows you to bypass the security block put up by your system (for more information please see the Apple support topic on this issue).
  2. After clicking "Open," Sumac launches as normal and can now be accessed from your applications folder.
  3. Locate the Install Sumac icon on your desktop.
  4. Right-click and select Eject “Install Sumac” to complete your installation.

If you have any further trouble installing or running Sumac, don't hesitate to reach out to our team for help (support@sumac.com)!
