What's New in Sumac Desktop
Clickable Dashboard Charts
Introducing clickable charts in your dashboard! Now, you can drill down into specific aspects of bar charts or pie charts simply by clicking on them. This feature allows you to view a detailed list of donations or cases based on the selected chart segment.
The benefits of this feature include:
- Enhanced Data Exploration: Quickly access detailed data without navigating away from the dashboard.
- Improved Workflow Efficiency: Save time by directly interacting with chart elements.
While this is a powerful new capability, please note that Dashlet Charts for Retention, including Donation Retention and Membership Retention, are not yet clickable.
Enable Shared Saved Searches
You can now define the visibility of your saved searches! With this update, users have the option to make their saved searches either shared or private, providing better control over data sharing and accessibility within the team.
Benefits of this feature include:
- Customized Access Control: Ensure sensitive searches remain private while sharing useful searches with your team.
- Increased Collaboration: Public searches facilitate easier data sharing and collaboration among users.
To set the visibility of a saved search, simply select the appropriate option when saving your search.
You can also click on “Manage Advanced Search Criteria” to set whether the search is shared or not.
Dashlets Now Fit Perfectly on Your Dashboard
Say goodbye to horizontal scrolling issues on your dashboard! This update improves the auto-adjustment of dashlets, ensuring they fit neatly within the dashboard view. This enhancement provides a better user experience by maintaining an organized and easily navigable dashboard.
Key benefits are:
- Improved Usability: Enjoy a clutter-free dashboard without the need for horizontal scrolling.
- Enhanced Visual Consistency: Dashlets automatically adjust to fit the screen, maintaining a clean layout.
More Sumac Themes
We’ve expanded our theme options based on your feedback!
In addition to the Default Brand Theme, we now have two more themes.
Purple Theme: Featuring our secondary brand color.
Monotone Theme: A more subdued, minimalist option.
Now you can personalize your Sumac experience even more with new themes that allow you to choose an option that best suits your preferences and needs.
To select a theme, go to Utilities > Customize Database > Preferences. Then click on User in the left-hand pane, select the System Appearance tab at the top, and scroll down to Colour Scheme.
Now, let’s move on to the latest updates for Sumac Web and Case Portal. We’re introducing new ways to manage your cases, transcribe notes, and enhance team collaboration.
What’s New in Case Portal
Take a Photo of Written Text and Transcribe it to Notes
To enhance the Case Portal, we’ve added OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality to the notes fields. By clicking the camera icon at the bottom right of the notes fields, you can take a photo of written text and have it transcribed directly into your notes. This feature is especially useful for case managers who prefer handwritten notes but need them digitized.
Benefits include:
- Time-Saving: Quickly convert handwritten notes to digital format.
- Accuracy: Reduce errors in transcription.
Don't have Case Management or Case Portal yet? Contact sales@societ.com to learn more! You can now upload files directly to client contact records within the Case Portal. A new Files tab has been added where you can upload and access files.
With this feature you can streamline the process of securely attaching and managing important documents related to your clients and cases.

- Convenience: Easily attach and access necessary files within client records.
- Security: Ensure important documents are securely stored and managed.
Case Portal file uploads are currently separate from Sumac Desktop, but we're planning to fully integrate them soon for seamless synchronization.
Assign Reminders to Other Case Portal Users
We’ve made it possible for Case Portal users to assign reminders to others. This functionality allows case managers and coordinators to create reminders and assign them to colleagues, enhancing task management and collaboration.
The advantages of this feature are:
- Improved Task Management: Easily delegate tasks and follow-ups to team members.
- Enhanced Collaboration: Foster better teamwork by sharing responsibilities and reminders.
