Release Notes - Sumac - July 2026

This release is a landmark moment for Case Portal users. Case Plans — a cornerstone of case management workflows — have finally arrived in Case Portal, along with full support for custom fields, a new quick-action button, and a refreshed layout that mirrors the Sumac Desktop experience your team already knows. We've also resolved a persistent set of Search Builder issues in Sumac Desktop.

🌐 Case Portal

📋 Case Plans Are Now in Case Portal

This is the big one. Case workers no longer need to leave Case Portal and open Sumac Desktop just to view or update a client's Case Plan.

Starting with this release, Case Plans are accessible directly within each client's contact record in Case Portal — under a new Case History tab that combines Case Notes and Case Plans in one place. Case workers can view, add, and edit Case Plans without ever leaving their primary tool: Case Portal!

Permissions are fully respected: if a field in a Case Plan is marked Sensitive and a case worker doesn't have permission to see Sensitive data, that field will not be visible — but all other fields will be.

Whether it's a first meeting where you need to create a new Case Plan, a follow-up where you want to review the client's goals before walking in, or a milestone session where you're closing out a completed goal — it's all right there in Case Portal now.

🔧 Custom Fields Now Fully Supported

Until now, Case Portal only displayed the default fields for Case Notes. Any custom fields your organization configured were invisible in Case Portal — a frustrating gap for teams who rely on them.

That changes with this release. All custom fields are now supported in Case Portal for both Case Plans and Case Notes. Nothing is missing, nothing is left behind — your staff see the full picture on every record.

➕ "Add to Contact" Is Now in Case Portal

The Add to Contact button — familiar to everyone who uses Sumac Desktop — is now available in Case Portal as well. It appears in the top right corner of every client's contact record.

From there, your team can create new meetings, reminders, case notes, case plans, and upload files — all from one place!

📁 "Attachments" Tab Renamed to "Forms & Attachments"

The Attachments tab on client contact records in Case Portal has been renamed to Forms & Attachments — matching the label already used in Sumac Desktop.

This makes Case Portal more consistent with the experience your team knows from Desktop, and better reflects what's actually on that tab: your client’s submitted forms and any attached files.

🗂️ Redesigned Contact Record Tab Order

The tabs on client contact records in Case Portal have been reordered to more closely match Sumac Desktop:

  1. Contact Information

  2. Forms & Attachments

  3. Case History

  4. Meetings & Reminders

This alignment reduces confusion for staff who work across both products and makes onboarding new team members smoother.

🐛 Bug Fixes

Search Builder reliability improvements (SUMD-5527)

Some users were experiencing unpredictable behaviour in Search Builder — changes appearing to save but not actually being retained, repeated save prompts when closing, missing Save/Save As options, and intermittent errors when running searches. All of these issues have been resolved. Search Builder now saves reliably, prompts consistently, and executes searches without errors.

As always, thank you for choosing Sumac, and for your continued feedback — it directly shapes the work we do. If you have questions about any of these changes, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team.
