Release Notes - Sumac - August 2026

This release introduces a redesigned receipting experience in Sumac Desktop, plus improvements to receipt history, reporting, search, and everyday performance.

New! Guided Receipt Creation

Creating receipts is now a clearer, step-by-step process. The new receipt wizard guides you from finding the donations to receipt, through creating receipts, to sending or printing them.

You can now:

1. Start from a dedicated Receipting menu, with quick access to Make Receipts, Send Receipts, Receipt History, and Cancel & Replace.

2. Filter donations before creating receipts; the wizard starts with unreceipted donations and this month selected by default, and users can tweak and add more filters to find the donations they want to receipt.


3. Answer simple questions instead of working through a receipt-type matrix.


4. Let Sumac choose the right receipt template automatically when your organization has set a default in Preferences > Donations.

5. See your progress as receipts are being created and saved to the cloud.


6. Move directly to sending or printing once receipts are created. Only the receipts from that run are shown, so you can finish the job without re-filtering.


7. See progress while receipts are sent or printed, continue working in Sumac, and get a clear confirmation when the work is complete. 


8. Create a receipt from an existing donation, or select Make receipt after saving while entering a new donation.

More control over receipt delivery

9. Donor records now include a Receipt Delivery Preference: Email or Print. When making receipts, Sumac uses that preference to determine who receives an email receipt, and who is included in the print output. Donors who give through a Sumac donation web form are automatically set to Email.

10. Receipts are saved to the cloud and PDF encryption is enabled by default. 

Find, reissue, and replace receipts more easily

11. Receipt History now makes it easier to find cloud receipts and email, print, open, download, or reissue them. The new guided Cancel & Replace flow lets you find receipts by number or donor name, cancel them correctly, and create replacements with the appropriate replacement number. Multi-donation receipts stay grouped together when they are reissued.

Important Note: The original receipting tools remain available for organizations that need more specialized, custom receipt options, such as different templates for different donation types or year-end annual giving statements.

Other improvements

  1. Universal Import now supports UK postal-code formats.
  2. Search filters now include relative time periods such as the prior 2, 3, or 5 years, plus a way to find contacts with memberships held for a specified number of consecutive years.
  3. Sumac start-up performance has been improved.
