What's New

New User Notifications

We've enhanced the way new users get acquainted with Sumac, making it easier than ever for nonprofits to onboard new staff. Through a series of thoughtful, staggered notifications, new users can navigate the features of Sumac without feeling overwhelmed.

Here's how these updates make a difference:

  1. Streamlined Onboarding: Each notification is designed to guide new users step-by-step, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the system.
  2. Targeted Information: Notifications are tailored to both general users and those with administrative permissions, ensuring relevant information is delivered efficiently.

Notifications Include:

Crash Course Video Notification

Kickstart your Sumac journey with our introductory video. It’s designed to give you a quick overview of the essential features you'll use daily, making your initial experience as smooth as possible.

Set Up Your Office

This notification is targeted at users with administrative privileges. It guides you through setting up crucial organizational details in one convenient place—add your logo, set your charity number, time zone, and default email settings. This centralized setup saves time and ensures consistency across your organization.

Note: A new Quick Setup window has been added to simplify a new user’s set up!

Additionally, setting your organization's country to US or Canada now automatically adjusts your CRM's country preference to State or Province and aligns the mailing format with the United States Postal Service or Canada Post.

Set User Permissions

Another key notification for administrators, this message directs you to helpful articles in our knowledge base that explain how to configure user roles and permissions, ensuring everyone has the appropriate access and capabilities.

Set Up Your Preferences

Personalize your Sumac experience by setting preferences like font size, tooltip visibility, and interface spacing. This customization can enhance your comfort and productivity within the platform.

Set Up Your Dashboard

Tailor your dashboard to better suit your daily tasks. This notification links to a knowledge base article that shows how to configure dashlets, making the information you need most readily accessible.

Case Portal Information

For users involved in case management, this timely notification provides instructions for logging into and navigating our Case Portal. This tool is essential for accessing client and case data remotely, ensuring you have the necessary information while on the move.

How to Get Support

A reminder that help is always just a call or email away. This notification ensures you know how to reach out for support, making sure you never feel stuck or hindered by a problem.

Fundraising and Executive Reports Set Up

Specifically for admins, this alert informs about setting up two crucial reports—Fundraising Effectiveness and Executive Summary Reports. These reports deliver critical insights directly to key stakeholders, helping guide strategic decisions.

Note: A new 'Email Reports Quick Setup' window has been created to streamline the user experience!

Knowledge Base Reminder

Lastly, a prompt that reminds you of the extensive resources available in our knowledge base. It’s a great way to quickly find answers and learn more about all Sumac features.

Each of these notifications is designed to introduce you to Sumac’s capabilities gradually and effectively, ensuring you can leverage all the benefits of the platform without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Grant Management UI Updates

We've overhauled the Grant Management interface to enhance the visibility and usability of grant-related features. Now, managing grants is more intuitive and accessible directly under the Fundraising section, improving workflow and efficiency.

Enhancements at a glance:

  1. Improved Accessibility: Easier navigation with the consolidation of grant management tools under the Fundraising tab.
  2. Enhanced Usability: Reorganized fields and collapsible sections in the Funding Request Window tailor the interface to user needs, making it simpler to view and modify information.
Detailed Updates:

Grant Management in the Sumac Console:

"Grant Management" is now prominently displayed under the Fundraising section, previously labeled as Funder Requests.

Funder Request Record Overhaul

We've re-arranged fields to group related information together, allowing for sections to be collapsed or expanded based on user requirements.

Add New Funding Programs and Funds

We've streamlined the process in the Funding Request Window by enabling users to add funding programs and funds directly, reducing the need for extra navigation.

Simplify the Process of Generating Donation Receipts

To enhance the efficiency of our donation processing, we've streamlined the method of generating donation receipts. This update significantly reduces the number of screens and dialog boxes users navigate, allowing for quicker completion of the task. Note that the process of creating donation receipts itself has not changed; we've simply made the interface easier to use.

Key benefits include:

  1. Increased Efficiency: Fewer clicks and less navigation result in faster receipt processing.
  2. User-Friendly Interface: A more streamlined process makes it easier for new and experienced users alike to generate necessary documentation.

Suspected Duplicate Enhancement: Simplified Logic

We've improved our suspected duplicate logic with an intuitive slider, allowing users to adjust sensitivity from "Lenient" to "Strict" and everything in between. This update simplifies the user interface while preserving the ability for detailed adjustments as needed.

Advantages of the new design:

  1. Enhanced Customization: Users can adjust the duplicate detection settings to match their specific needs with simple slider control.
  2. Simplified User Experience: Reduces the complexity traditionally involved in setting duplicate detection parameters, making it more accessible to all users.

This new interface is accessible to all users with permissions to Sumac Preferences.

To access it, click on the gear icon in the Review Duplicates screen, or navigate through Utilities > Customize Database > Preferences. Then, select the CRM tab on the left, followed by the Suspected Duplicate Logic tab at the top.

From there, you can choose between the simplified interface and the original, more advanced version by toggling the switch!

Other Updates

In addition to major changes, this release includes several improvements across the system:

Fund Description Added to Pledge Mail Merge Options

A "Fund Description" mail merge code has been introduced in the Pledges Area, along with a corresponding field for bulk editing. Users can now include detailed information about the specific fund a donor has contributed to when creating mail merge letters and emails from the pledges area.

Time Zone Awareness in Contact History

The contact history tab now accurately reflects the time zone settings specified in your organization's database, enhancing the accuracy and relevance of timestamped data entries.

Why this matters:

  1. Improved Data Accuracy: Ensures that all time-related data displays correctly according to the local settings.
  2. Enhanced User Experience: Users see data that is consistent with their time zone, reducing confusion and errors.

Enhanced Image Handling in HTML Templates

We've refined the process for adding large or multiple images to your HTML templates, ensuring a smoother, more flexible design experience. Now, you can build your templates exactly how you envision them, with improved support for extensive visual content.

ⓘ To take full advantage of these enhancements, we recommend creating new templates. This approach ensures that all fixes are effectively incorporated, providing you with a stable and reliable template creation process.

Newsletter opt-ins for Webform

Updates to Donation and Membership webforms now include new fields and options for newsletter opt-ins, expanding the capabilities of these forms to gather more relevant information and engage users effectively.

Key updates:
  1. Enhanced Engagement Tools: Newsletter opt-ins help organizations build their mailing lists directly through form submissions
  2. Customizable Form Fields: New fields provide the flexibility to capture information that is most pertinent to the organization's needs.

New Bulk Edit Features for Donations & Field Options for Donation Updates via Imports

We've taken a step forward in making the management of donations more streamlined and comprehensive in this update.

Firstly, we've expanded the functionality of bulk edits in the donations module. Now, not only can you manage soft credits, but you can also handle tribute donations all from a single interface. This new integration allows for flexible credit attributions and efficient management of tribute donations, simplifying the way you update multiple tribute donations at once.

But that's not all. We've also introduced new field options when updating donation records via imports. The update now includes 'Notes' and 'Reconciled' statuses in your imports. This simplifies updates of Sumac Donation records from other systems.

Colour-Coded Contacts Across Sumac Areas

By popular demand, colour coding for contacts is back! Now reintroduced across various Sumac areas, this feature helps in quickly identifying contacts based on predefined criteria.
