Does Sumac support Windows on ARM (e.g., Snapdragon) laptops?

Sumac Desktop is built and tested for traditional Intel/AMD (x64) and 32-bit Windows PCs, as well as Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. It is not officially tested or certified on Windows 11 devices powered by ARM-based processors (e.g., Qualcomm Snapdragon).

What to expect:
Windows 11 on ARM includes a built-in compatibility layer that emulates x64 applications. Because the Sumac installer always installs an x64 Java runtime, Sumac should install and generally function on a Snapdragon-based Windows 11 laptop through this emulation — but:
  • Performance may be noticeably slower than on a native x64/AMD64 machine, particularly for graphics-heavy features (calendar view, charts/reports).
  • We have not internally verified all features on ARM-based Windows hardware.
  • Since this isn't an officially supported configuration, support for issues specific to ARM emulation is not available.

Our recommendation:
If you're purchasing a new computer for Sumac and want guaranteed compatibility, choose a traditional Intel/AMD (x64) Windows laptop, or a Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon — both are natively supported).

If you already own a Snapdragon/ARM Windows 11 laptop, you're welcome to try installing Sumac but you may run into performance issues or unexpected behavior. Please note this configuration isn't officially certified.
