Course Registration – Overview

Overview

The Course Registration add-on in Sumac keeps track of courses, sessions, registrations, attendance, and marks.

Key Concepts

  • Course – A particular curriculum of learning. The same course may be delivered many times (e.g. Science 101, Ballet for Beginners, Intro to Watercolours).
  • Session – The delivery of a course at a particular time. For example, a session may run over three months starting in September; another session of the same course might start in January (e.g. Spring Session of Science 101).
  • Class – A single unit of teaching (e.g. a two-hour lecture on Monday night at 6:00 p.m.) that is part of a session. A class takes place at a specific time and place.

So there may be several sessions of any particular course, and each session consists of several classes.

Viewing Course Registration Data

The Course Registration add-on provides two views:

  • Course View – Presents day-to-day information about students, classes, and exams. Ideal for focusing on one particular session. Access via Course Registrations > Course View in the console.
  • Registrations View – Shows a list of registrations across multiple sessions. Best for examining registrations in a specific time period or for a particular student.

There is also a Transaction Log that automatically tracks interactions such as moving a student from one session to another, adding a student to a waiting list, or registering a wait-list student.

Course View Window

  1. In the top-left, select a Course to see its registration information.
  2. The Sessions area shows all sessions for the selected course. Click a session to see its details.
  3. Use the four radio buttons to choose what appears in the main scrolling list: Registrations, Classes, Exams, or Wait List.

Registration View Window

  • Provides a standard Sumac list window with a Search Panel to find registrations.
  • Use the New button to add new registrations.
  • Expand Analyze & Report for helpful registration reports.
